Looking toward ASP.NET 2.0

ASP.NET 2.0, due around Nov, 7 2005, is a huge upgrade. There is plenty of new functionality including features that encourage enhancements in my controls. Microsoft has posted an extensive library of articles on msdn.microsoft.com. I recommend starting with Migrating from ASP.NET 1.x to ASP.NET 2.0 and then exploring the table of contents to the left.

PeterBlum.com will approach ASP.NET 2.0 in two stages:
  • Compatibility - Confirm that the existing assemblies continue to work with ASP.NET 2.0. If necessary, service releases will be provided or workarounds posted here in this news topic.
  • Enhanced functionality - The new features will be analyzed to determine which, if any should find their way into the PeterBlum.com product line. This means that the product will eventually be shipped with two sets of assemblies, for ASP.NET 1.x and 2.0. The enhanced functionality versions of these assemblies may be offered as an upgrade (at a cost) or service release. The official release strategy is yet to be determined.
